The selection method in the employment process is an important aspect of any viable personnel system. An organization’s effectiveness is directly linked to the quality of its personnel and this quality is, to a great extent, contingent upon the ability of adequately identifying individuals who will become superior performers. In current society, nowhere is this more prevalent than in the selection of police officers. In the final analysis, quality law enforcement relies not on technology, but rather on people.
Employment assessment consists of a battery of testing instruments that can identify and evaluate specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) that are needed to successfully perform the job tasks of an entry-level Law Enforcement Officer (LEO). The KSAs are created from a job task analysis of entry level LEOs. The KSAs from the job task analysis are utilized to construct the training curriculum for the Police Academies.
